The Cocktail Glass Collection: Toot's in Crockett, California

On a short trip in the East Bay recently I found myself in Crockett, a little town near the southern coast of the Carquinez Strait. On a corner near the center of town stands a bar called Toot's. It has an unusual neon cocktail glass sign above its entrance. Besides the name "Toot's" in neon, there is a martini glass in neon—which is common—but into this one has fallen a nude woman. It's not clear whether she's frolicking or drowning, but there she is. I'd like to see this sign lit up at night.

The Cocktail Glass Collection: Matteucci's in San Anselmo

It's been more than two years since I last posted an example of a neon cocktail glass I've seen. With the pandemic, I've hardly been out anywhere far from home.

Recently, however, I saw this one in the window of a bar in San Anselmo. This is at Matteucci's, at 114 Greenfield Ave.

The Cocktail Glass Collection: Doc's Clock

A new addition to my collection of photos of neon cocktail glass signs in front of bars. This is the sign in front of Doc's Clock, at

The Cocktail Glass Collection: The Buddha Lounge

I recently came across The Buddha Lounge, in San Francisco's Chinatown—a new addition to my collection of photographs of neon cocktail glass signs outside of bars. The glass itself looks fairly generic, but it's in an unusual pink that goes with the "Buddha" text. The bar is at 901 Grant Ave., San Francisco, CA 94108.

The Cocktail Glass Collection: Neon Cocktail Glass with Unusual Garnish

Here's another neon cocktail glass to add to my collection. Until now, I've found such signs only in front of bars, so this one's an outlier. It's not in front of a bar but in front of one of San Francisco's North Beach topless clubs--which explains the unusual garnish. It reminded me of a Mel Ramos painting. Is that a very large olive? A melon, maybe?

The Cocktail Glass Collection: Pop's Bar, San Francisco

I think this may be my new favorite neon cocktail glass sign in San Francisco (hitherto, the sign at The 500 Club at 500 Guerrero St. has been my favorite, and it's still pretty fabulous). I love the bright neon doubled lettering, in particular. There's a nice mix of colors here, too--with white, pink, orange, yellow, and green tubes. The effect is enhanced by the Christmas lights wrapped around the tree just outside the entrance. This is Pop's Bar, at 2800 24th Street (at the corner of 24th and York St.).

The Cocktail Glass Collection: Palmer's Tavern, San Francisco

At 2298 Fillmore St., in San Francisco, is Palmer's Tavern, a new addition to my collection of photos of neon cocktail glass signs in front of bars. The glass looks fairly generic, but I like the blue  contrasting with the orange neon of the logo.

The Cocktail Glass Collection: The Page, San Francisco

At 298 Divisadero St., in San Francisco, is The Page, a small neighborhood bar with a nice neon sign out front. I like the custom script here and the contrast between the yellow lettering and the blue cocktail glass.

The Cocktail Glass Collection: The Boom Boom Room, San Francisco

I recently drove by the Boom Boom Room, at 1601 Fillmore St, in San Francisco. The glass in this one appears generic (although the blue-green hue is unusual), but the rest of the sign is a custom design with a lot of nicely done text.

The Cocktail Glass Collection: St. Mary's Pub, San Francisco

I've recently had reason to be in San Francisco at night more often than in the past. I'm enjoying the opportunity that's afforded to see some new neon cocktail glass signs lit. This is the sign in front of St. Mary's Pub, at 3845 Mission St., San Francisco, CA 94110. The glass itself is generic, but I like the script "St. Mary's Pub."

The Cocktail Glass Collection: The City Club, San Francisco

Another neon cocktail glass in San Francisco. This one is at The City Club, 2950 16th Street. The glass itself looks fairly generic in design, but yellow is somewhat unusual.

The Cocktail Glass Collection: The Buckhorn, Petaluma

On a recent day of driving around San Francisco after dark I passed this simple but attractive neon cocktail glass (with skewered cherry) at The Buckhorn. Unfortunately, I've lost track of the location. A Google search brings up only the Buckhorn Grill, with three locations in the city, but this appears to be an independent bar not connected with the grill. Somewhere in San Francisco....

[Update: Or so I thought. Oddly, I drove by the place again a few days after posting this. I see that The Buckhorn is in Petaluma, not San Francisco--at 615 Petaluma Blvd S. I'd forgotten where I took the photograph.]

The Cocktail Glass Collection: The Delirium Bar, San Francisco

I recently passed by the Delerium Bar, in San Francisco, at 3139 16th Street. This appears to be a custom design with the cocktail glass in blue. It's unusual in that it doesn't have a skewered olive or cherry in it.
