Serendipitous Art: Parking Garage Spots (November 28, 2014)

The textured floor of a parking garage. An unlikely place to find something that seems so decorative. Everyone likes polka dots, right? Unintended art, serendipitous art.

Serendipitous Art: Paint and Street Markings

Recently on business in the Haight in San Francisco I had a little time between appointments to wander the streets. I found this patch of spilled blue paint run over by a tire atop a bright yellow street marking of some kind. I thought it an interesting abstract composition. Unintended art, serendipitous art.

Found Art: Black Cloth (January 13, 2014)

Serendipitous Art: Black cloth
This black cloth was hanging in front of the glass pane in a door somewhere. I liked the pattern created by the uneven application of whatever was used to color it black. Unintended art, serendipitous art.

Found Art: Eared Disc on Market St. (November 26, 2013)

Crossing Market St. in San Francisco on the weekend, I saw a yellow disc with "ears" painted on the street--a marking I've never encountered before. I have no idea what it means, but it looked like art to me. Maybe you'll find it, too.

Found Art: Yellow Arrows, Berkeley (August 22, 2103)

Every time I go to Berkeley--which isn't really very often--I find pavement markings that I find beautiful. This arrow is virtually worn away--looking almost melancholy. It seems the echo of the newer arrow to the right that was painted over it.  Found art.

Found Art: Road Stripe and Cut Marks (April 22, 2012)

A composition in roadway stripes. The white is part of a lane line. The red stripes appear to be marks indicating where cuts were to be made for a repair. Found art. Art is everywhere--just look down.

Found Art: Manhole Cover and Asphalt, Victoria, B.C. (July 27, 2011)

Walking along a street in Victoria, BC, on my recent trip north to Canada, I saw this radially incised manhole cover surrounded by asphalt patching. Found art.
