Miscellaneous: Downsizing

An NPR article I saw today describes a new game--a kind of word deflation or downsizing of familiar titles or the names of famous people in amusing ways--for example, transforming The Grapes of Wrath into The Currants of Perturbation--the brainchild of NPR writer Scott Simon and Austin Tichenor of the Reduced Shakespeare Company, which specializes in doing drastically abridged versions of the works of Shakespeare. I immediately thought of a few downsized variations on the names of some famous actors and actresses:

Cary Loan
Katharine Hepsmolder
Sean Nib
Richard Cog
Dustin Hoffboy
Robert Duvmost
Rodney Dangerplot
Ben Still
Billy Cutglass
Marlon Generico
Mary Tyler Less
Sharon Pebble
Gwyneth Paltry
Whoopi Silverberg
Kate Eastriver
Orson Springs
Claude Drizzles
Ernest Borgeight

The possibilities are endless....

Tidbits: RIP--The Rialto Cinemas Lakeside, Santa Rosa

Tonight was the last night of showings at the Rialto Cinemas Lakeside, on Summerfield Rd., not far from where I live in Santa Rosa. I had heard the place had been forced to close, but didn't realize tonight was the last night. If I had known, I would have gone. What a shame to lose such a good theater so close to home. I will miss the place and the memories associated with it. Now where do we go to see the films the big commercial houses refuse to show?
